Structure and management of the BFSLA
The General Committee
The General Committee is required to comprise not less than 15 nor more than 30 people. The constitution requires that the Committee have, where nominated, at least four persons residing in New South Wales and Victoria respectively, as well as at least one from each of the other states of Australia, the ACT and New Zealand. Committee members are elected at the annual general meeting, and are obliged to retire at the forthcoming AGM, although they are entitled to offer themselves for re-election.
To be elected to the Committee a candidate is obliged to submit a nomination notice to the Association at least one month prior to the annual general meeting. Only members of the Association are eligible to join the Committee.
The Committee represents the broad policy-making organ of the Association.
In addition to the annual meeting of the Committee, which is held invariably during the annual conference of the Association, the Committee meets by telephone conference call approximately five to eight times a year. Committee members are occasionally asked to assist the board and executive of the Association in terms of organising functions, disseminating information to colleagues, and providing feedback and advice on various initiatives and matters that arise.
The Board of Directors
The board of directors of the Association is required to consist of nine individuals, all of whom must be members of the Association, and who have the following titles:- President;
- Two vice presidents;
- Treasurer;
- Secretary;
- Four executive members of the Committee.
