BFSLA 2010 SCHOLARSHIP
UP TO AUD$50,000
The Banking and Financial Services Law Association Ltd. invites applications for the Banking and Financial Services Law Association Scholarship (2010) to contribute to the costs of undertaking postgraduate study in banking/finance law or a related field at an approved university of the successful applicant’s choice.
THE PURPOSE
The scholarship is open to competition between graduates in any discipline who are permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand and who wish to pursue advanced postgraduate study in the law relating to banking, financial services or a related field at an approved university anywhere in the world.
THE BENEFIT
The 2010 scholarship will be of an amount of up to AUD$50,000 to contribute to the cost of tuition at an approved university and to the costs of related travel, board, and living and other ancillary expenses.
The scholarship may extend to payment of costs for approved field work, but only as part of the course being studied by the applicant.
The Board may in its discretion award more than one scholarship which in aggregate do not exceed AUD$50,000.
The Scholarship is awarded to coincide with the commencement of the northern hemisphere academic year – ie October 2010.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should be persons who intend to pursue postgraduate study at an approved university in 2010, or by persons who are already pursuing postgraduate study at an approved university, to enable them to continue their studies. Persons who have completed their course of study at an approved university are not eligible for a scholarship.
Applicants should submit details of their academic and professional record and experience, proposed course of study, and a budget. They should also provide the names and contact details of three referees, and any other information considered by the Board to be relevant.
The Board will contact the three referees named by the applicant, but it may also contact on a confidential basis other persons who may know the applicant. (Please include e-mail contact details for your referees)
Applications must be submitted on an Application Form which can be obtained from the BFSLA Secretariat.
THE DECISION
The Board of the Association shall make its decision on the above and any other criteria the Board considers may be appropriate, including the value of the proposed study and the likelihood of the applicant’s success. The Association may decide in its absolute discretion, for any reason, that the 2010 Scholarship will not be awarded.

Ms Felicity Lehane (Freehills, Sydney)
Felicity was awarded the full scholarship and is currently studying for her LLM at Columbia Law School and we look forward to receiving a progress report on her time over there.
