2010 Research Prize Announcement
The Banking and Financial Services Law Association Ltd offers two prizes each year for research essays on important issues of current banking and financial services law and practice which are relevant to Australia and/or New Zealand. The amounts of the prizes may be reset each year. In 2010 the Association offers a prize pool of $15,000 – the amounts awarded will be at the discretion of the Prize Panel.
No particular areas of Banking and Financial Services Law or Practice have been selected by the Association as acceptable areas for research, but entries should:
• Display a high degree of legal scholarship on matters of contemporary practical day-to-day relevance in the fields of banking and/or finance law (including insolvency)
• Demonstrate some original thinking on the topic, rather than being a collation of ideas of others or a digest of recent case law
• Be of a standard, both as regards content and presentation, which is suitable for publication in a law journal
• Be authored by not more than two (2) persons
• Word count: Minimum of 10,000 Maximum of 15,000
• As the object of the Prize is not only to make the benefits of the research available to the public but also to encourage the research potential of the successful entrant, acceptable entrants include students (both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels), academics, and practitioners. Accordingly entrants should mark on their entry the level of study/achievement they currently have in the law.
• Entries must be unpublished at the time of acceptance and normally remain unpublished until the Award is announced. However the Board may agree to give the entrant a licence to publish pending a decision on the Award. The Association reserves the right to publish successful papers, both in hard copy and in electronic format, once a decision has been made.
• The Association reserves in its absolute discretion the right not to award either or both prizes for any reason.
Entries Close at 5pm (EST) on Friday 11th June, 2010 and will be judged by a panel selected by the Association. The Prize results will be announced at the Annual Conference Dinner on Sunday 15th August, 2010.
All entries must be typed (double spaced and on A4 paper, with a one inch margin on the left hand side) and must follow the style guide issued by the Law Book Company for the Australian Business Law Review.
As entries are blind reviewed – please prepare a copy without personal details and one copy with your personal details and your level of study/achievements in the Law.
